Don't Let Old Glory Down
Dedicated to the memory or William Bohrnsen

The title of this song came from a high school commencement address given back in June, 1970 by Superintendent of schools, William Bohrnsen in the small coastal town of Hoquiam, Washington. His stirring patriotic message concluded with the statement "Don't Let Old Glory Down."

I thought a lot about these words and realized that "Old Glory" is the symbol of everything our great land stands for. I proceeded to put it to song: then put it away and nearly forgot it.

It was nearly twenty years later that some of my kids said "Mom, you need to do something with that song." So, we hired Greg Hansen of Orem, Utah to arrange and oversee its recording with help from members of the Utah Symphony.

And a very talented Son, James F. Wright, Traveled from California to sing:

Don't let Old Glory Down,
Keep her flying high,
Her faithful banner waving
like a beacon in the sky.
She's watched her nations birth;
Heralded freedoms cry
Her colors waving bravely
As she's watched her patriots die.

She's gathered every race and creed,
And made them all a brother.
She 's Stretched her arms across the seas,
To help the cause of another
Through years of peace and years of strife,
Our loyal banner's flown.
Show her honor, keep her bright
"Don't Let Old Glory Down"
